Everything feels governed when we hold a map—folded, bounded, obedient. But once it’s placed before us, scale begins to shift—suggesting that the world we think we understand is always negotiable. This installation reverses that experience by laying a full-scale 1:1000 Fo Tan map from 1976—before the industrial hub transformed the area—across the gallery floor. Made from plant ash, sand, and architectural debris, the contours are drawn from the very residue of the original landscape, turning what remains into what is seen. As visitors move, the map is altered and gradually erased. Its disappearance becomes a quiet record of human presence: interaction not as domination, but as contact—reminding us that place is never fixed, only temporary.
