In the Artefact series, Chu gathered fragments of household goods from an abandoned village in Fo Tan, Hong Kong. These fragments primarily include ceramic and porcelain tableware, ornaments, and worship supplies, dating back to the mid-1800s to the late 1900s.

This series was exhibited in Memory Smuggler: A First Quartet at To Art House, Hong Kong. In this exhibition, Chu adopted quasi-archaeological methods to explore settlements and ruins in the hills of Fo Tan. Through this process, Chu delved into the memories embedded within the urban wilderness.

Chu filled the missing sections of the fragments with white cement—a modern material contrasting the historical nature of the objects. The dried cement retains its organic, foaming form, creating an impression of growth or expansion within the fragments, as if an internal force is causing them to crack. At the same time, the cement binds fragments, which may or may not originate from the same source, into a seemingly complete form. Enclosed between two layers of glass, the pieces are presented in a museum-like format, evoking the experience of viewing preserved artefacts.
